was thinking about the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission.   Is it possible it is ghhelped South Africa heal?   Can such a format be used by Biden here?

Answers: 1. Some reports say healing did not come about in South Africa from the Commission, only revelations of how very bad apartheid was. 2. Biden‘s heart and mind is in the right place on seeking unity for all Americans, and a couple, maybe even a few Republicans will work with him to unite the country.  But the Truth and Reconciliation Commission format can‘t work against the 200 years of embedded White Nationalism in America, and the money and power that comes with the White Nationalist agenda.

What is needed, given peace and unity are unlikely in a backdrop of so many deniers, Americans who insist they are the victims, not the poor, not the minorities, not the LGBTQ, etc. is “We need guardrails, LAWS, to manage hate and real crimes, ggas a Truth and Reconciliation Commission will never make White Nationalist terrorist repent or go away.,” better means of identifying what inspires violence against fellow Americans.

Sadly, I think Jon Meacham is wrong to think America can be better.  Yes, America moved on, left our terrible experiences behind us, but America did not overcome the evil, we just carried it forward.

The cancer of White Nationalism in Americans and the politics of our country metastasized long ago, and now we have “tumors” throughout the country.  There are too few “better angels” to fight, much less defeat the anti-christ terrorists in our country.  Evil is rampant, the alt-right and other conservative extremes now hold fast in the heart and souls of ~70,000,000 Americans.

We need guardrails, LAWS, to manage hate and real crimes, as a Truth and Reconciliation Commission will never make White Nationalist terrorist repent, or go away, or give up their seat at the “head of the table.” We, individual by individual must choose good.  That choice will help some as Jon suggests.  On our “islands” we’ll do what we can and protect our family and friends from the evil in America every day, the best we can, our personal “guardrails.”
