"Trump Sabotages Obamacare by Ending Subsidies That Help Lower Costs"
Payments may stop almost immediately.

"The Trump administration announced late Thursday night that it would no longer provide key health insurance subsidies that are intended to keep costs down for lower-income Americans. The move, widely viewed as an effort to sabotage Obamacare, has the potential to disrupt insurance markets. The subsidies, which are paid to insurance companies, help cover the cost of providing affordable coverage.
“The bailout of insurance companies through these unlawful payments is yet another example of how the previous administration abused taxpayer dollars and skirted the law to prop up a broken system,” the White House Press Office said in an emailed statement. “Congress needs to repeal and replace the disastrous Obamacare law and provide real relief to the American people.”"
"Trump: Millions Will Suffer Unless Dems Play Ball" [Tweety is gambling with lives to get his way . . . ]

"The latest from our president:
"The Democrats ObamaCare is imploding. Massive subsidy payments to their pet insurance companies has stopped. Dems should call me to fix!
5:36 AM - Oct 13, 2017 "
Translation: I will continue to rip insurance coverage from the poor and sick until you cave in to my demands."
OK, what more is there? Details?
"As it happens, stopping CSR payments to insurance companies might not do the damage Trump thinks it will. And his action yesterday, which encourages the creation of association plans that suck all the young and healthy customers out of Obamacare, might also be less damaging than he’d like. On a technical level, it turns out that Trump’s executive order doesn’t allow association plans to market to individuals, which reduces its scope. On a political level, it will take months for agencies to create rules and hold hearings to implement the EO, and possibly many more months in court.
That’s semi-heartening, but there’s a whole different problem looming: the more Trump screws around with Obamacare rules, the more likely it is that insurance companies quit the exchanges."
Is this negotiation tactic realistic?
Do not believe Tweety when he says the health care he created by his Executive Order will be great. Then Tweety says "believe me," which usually means he has no idea what he has done, or where it will go.
Then he decided to stop subsidies to insurance companies. Now Tweety OWNS America's health care system!
The subsidies made health insurance available to poorer people, below $40K a year. The subsidies were not on strong legal ground anyway. There were no appropriations for the subsidies; THAT is a significant legal flaw in Obama's actions. A judge said the subsidies were illegal because no funding was appropriated. That is a a correct legal technicality that Tweety wants fixed, but I think more likely he is using the sbsidies to get his way . . . .
Tweety is incredibly cynical trying to force Congress to act, to "make a deal." He wants great health care for the country, cheaper, and that is not possible. But maybe it is possible. Maybe the Democrats should stop being intransigent and work with him.
