Abuse of women is OK in religion. Abuse of girls is sanctioned in the Bible.
Read the Bible. You will find a lot of stupid crap. It has hate, incest, homosex, and, worst of all, dominion over women. Of course, it was written by men!
Mass hysteria, or some sort of a sickness of the mind, that is what religion is when it requires and / or convinces people to rationalize everything bad that happens to them, to family and friends, or to neighbors, or to anyone, as "part of God's plan." When God closes a door he opens a window? God gives me a purpose.
It's self-hypnosis. It is delusional.
None of this mental illness is necessarily bad, of course, if it makes people feel good.
Religious beliefs can cause people to think insane things like a man who is "happy" for his 9 dead family members "because they are in heaven, and that is a good thing." No, it is not a good thing because if it were, we should all just shoot each other and go to heaven!
This ma, a surviving family member fro the Sutherland Church mass shooting needs therapy. He is not allowing himself to mourn lost family by deluding himself to be happy because they are dead!

"Joe Holcombe, 86, who lost nine members of his family spanning three generations, said he can’t find “anything bad in what happened” because the way he sees it, his family is in a better place and he’ll get to see them someday."
Sometimes religion makes you think and say stupid things, literally stupid! Or more likely religion is a form of mass hysteria, especially when it makes a man go so far as to be happy his family was murdered because they got to go to heaven, like it is a f**king trip to Disney World!
"This may help to explain the psychological phenomenon of mass hysteria. Mass hysteria is also known as epidemic hysteria, mass psychogenic illness, and mass sociogenic illness. ... It's "seen as a social phenomenon involving otherwise healthy people." Some psychologists believe mass hysteria is a form of groupthink."

"What is a cult?"
Cults are exploitative, weird groups with strange beliefs and practices, right? So what about regular religions then?

"Cults, generally speaking, are a lot like pornography: you know them when you see them. It would be hard to avoid the label on encountering (as I did, carrying out field work last year) 20 people toiling unpaid on a Christian farming compound in rural Wisconsin – people who venerated their leader as the closest thing to God’s representative on Earth. Of course, they argued vehemently that they were not a cult. Ditto for the 2,000-member church I visited outside Nashville, whose parishioners had been convinced by an ostensibly Christian diet programme to sell their houses and move to the ‘one square mile’ of the New Jerusalem promised by their charismatic church leader."
So why is this 89yo man who is very happy for his 9 dead family members not a victim of mass hysteria?
"Today’s cults might be secular, or they might be theistic. But they arise from the same place of need, and from the failure of other, more ‘mainstream’ cultural institutions to fill it. If God did not exist, as Voltaire said, we would have to invent him. The same is true for cults."
I've got news for you my friend Tara, mankind/womankind DID invent God. God was invented to help very hysterical, mildly hysterical, and plain silly people get thru all kinds of hell the experience while living on this ugly, cruel earth.
The people of Sutherland are only significant examples of people who will fool themselves for the sake of their mental and emotional well being after seeing loved ones slaughtered, shot with a AR-15 no less, for no good reason whatsoever, not even for God's reasons.
