The NFL lost 17% audience when Tweety made kneeling a bad protest. Now the NFL has responded showing they care more about kneeling than abuse of women by their actions. Tweety has won.
America has "militarized" sports by politicizing our national anthem and the flag, using them at sporting events to rouse pride in our country. THat was not done until the last 8 years or so in the NFL.
The idea that America is representing our values through our anthem and our flag is laudable. The fact no one can protest the fact our American values are being demeaned by Tweety and bad cops is wrong and sad. America is more worried about kneeling for example, than abuse and molestation of women.
The United States national anthem and the American Star Spangled Banner flag are the result of protest against perceived and real tyranny.
I guess we have to be personally touched by the racism and killing in order to care. It will obviously take more, maybe a cop beating a white woman on a beach, or another cop going rogue in a hotel arrest killing a white man begging for his life?
It is incredibly stupid to try to redirect the kneeling protest about #BLACKLIVESMATTER to say more whites are killed by police. WHAT KIND OF RESPONSE IS THAT?! WHY DONT YOU PROTEST #WHITELIVESMATTER. Yes, #ALLLIVESMATTER and we are all being stupid to allow bad cops to keep killing ANYONE!
Football fans say just play football, entertain me, stop being political. That too is bogus because we are only talking about a few motions, maybe 2minutes time, and a message of sadness while you get a couple hours of entertainment.
You seek pleasure, kneeling football players seek JUSTICE! They are NOT DISRESPECTING ANYONE OR ANYTHING!
"Video shows Arizona man sobbing, begging for his life before fatal police shooting"
Wesley Lowery Washington Post 8 Dec 2017
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-daniel-shaver-police-video-20171208-story.html
OK, if you wish to change the message, go ahead, look at the current count of cop killings.
This is the link to check "Fatal Force" in 2018. At the moment I clicked the link there were 412 people dead by cop. 987 citizens were killed by cop in 2017. What we have is an excessive number of dead people by cop.
Fatal police shootings of unarmed people have significantly declined, experts say.
"Flagging The NFL’s New Policy: What's Next? Loyalty Oaths To The Stars And Stripes?
by Bill Littlefield May 24, 2018
"If they’d [THe NFL Owners] continued their deliberations, those owners might have come up with a dumber policy ... but probably not. It makes you wonder if the time is coming when fans will be required to sign loyalty oaths to the stars and stripes before they can enter the stadium. Silly, sure. But any sillier than wrapping the NFL in the flag and demanding that the players salute before they play?"
Appeasing Tweety . . . and demanding obedience. Will black men accept this modern form of slavery under the guise of employment?
"From this boardroom full of old, white men has emerged a rule certain to aggravate at least a considerable percentage of the young, predominantly black labor force over which the old white men preside. Maybe that was part of the purpose of this directive.
“We’ll tell you what to do, and you’ll do it.”"
Do the people who are angered by the kneeling football players think beyond their basist ego to bully these players? The audience say the kneeling layers are spoiled rich kids. Wow! That is really sick, and, as I say in other blogs, not surprising at all for ugly America.
"I wonder how loudly they’d cheer if some of the players who’ve helped their team win each Sunday were bounced from the roster for demonstrating in favor of a more just country rather than silently standing while — again and again — their fellow citizens were bullied, beaten and shot in the street by those charged with protecting them?"
It is sad to me at 71 that I may not see the day when America and Americans truly understand our liberty was won based on the values of freedom to make a statement by everyone, not just by who you want, the way YOU (Or Tweety) wants.
"The players who have elected to demonstrate their outrage at the way black people are sometimes treated as targets and often treated as second-class citizens by those in power in this nation have made the purpose of their demonstrations clear. They have nothing against the military. They have nothing against the flag, or the anthem or the Fourth of July. But like anyone determined to lodge a meaningful protest, they understand that a gesture that nobody notices is an empty one. So they have protested when people are watching. There was a time when the citizens in this democracy could take the right to do that for granted, and that time will come again. But by coming up with a policy which allows on to the field during the playing of the anthem only players who’ll do as they’re told, the NFL owners have collaborated in an attack on one of the most significant rights necessary to that democracy."
"The Indignity of the N.F.L.’s New National-Anthem Policy"
by Ian Crouch 23 May 2018
"The N.F.L. has travelled quite a distance since September, when Donald Trump ignited a controversy by profanely criticizing the handful of players who had, since 2016, knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. Speaking at a rally in Alabama, Trump asked the crowd, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these N.F.L. owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now’?”"
Money rules and "trumps" ethical, honest protest. Let's acknowledge the football players protests were during work hours, and at the work place, and that NBA has the same sort of "you must respect the anthem" rules. And acknowledge NFL owners and Roger Goodell stood with the players last year.
". . . Roger Goodell, called the President’s comments “divisive.” Many team owners and executives strenuously defended their players’ rights to kneel. Mark Murphy, the C.E.O. of the Green Bay Packers, said, “We believe it is important to support any of our players who choose to peacefully express themselves with the hope of change for good. As Americans, we are fortunate to be able to speak openly and freely.”"
Bottom line tho, NFL owners caved to Trump and culture wars and divisiveness and tribalism.
"This week, Goodell and the owners completed their retreat, officially capitulating to those fans who, spurred on by Trump, threatened to cancel their cable packages and set their televisions and Cowboys jerseys on fire. The policy is billed as a compromise because it also allows players, if they wish, to remain off the field during the national anthem. “We are dedicated to continuing our collaboration with players to advance the goals of justice and fairness in all corners of our society,” Goodell said in a statement announcing the new rules. But the desired result is clear: this fall, the sidelines will be rid of kneeling players."
We are indeed a country full of cowards, and greedy WHITE bastards, and a people who do not want to understand that racism in America is at a very bad place.
"Goodell might have noted, as many executives in the N.F.L. did last fall, that the players’ decision to kneel was itself an act of patriotism, or at the very least well within their rights as private citizens. "
It was out of patriotism for our anthem that black players tried to bring white America's attention to the killing of blacks and general racism against blacks by kneeling, but Tweety shit on that idea to appeal to his KK and White Nationalist base, and the racist instincts of whites who like to see black players bash their heads in every week for their entertainment.
"Chris Long, a defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles and an outspoken advocate for the rights of players to kneel, offered a persuasive explanation on Wednesday. “This is fear of a diminished bottom line,” he tweeted. “It’s also fear of a president turning his base against a corporation. This is not patriotism. These owners don’t love America more than the players demonstrating and taking real action to improve it.” Long’s teammate Malcolm Jenkins wrote, “Everyone loses when voices get stifled.”"
The players meant well, had a rational reason for kneeling, an idea that America could be a better place. including grace for black people.
"On Wednesday, Mike Pence tweeted a screenshot of an article about the new rules, with the phrase #Winning. Later, he wrote, “Today’s decision by the @NFL is a win for the fans, a win for @POTUS, and a win for America.”"
President Tweety / Trump is the President of the UNITED States, the key word being UNITED! When will he start trying to truly unify the country rather than demand everyone bow to his will? He says maybe NFL players who do not kneel should leave the country!? What an idiotic, incredibly idiotic thing to say as President!
Tweety should leave this country before he makes the culture and political divide permanent!
The NFL seems to think the public insists on players bowing and crawling for the National Anthem is necessary. The paying public, in the assessment of the NFL, wants a tiny bit of slavery. I know it IS hard to read this slavery thing . . . for WHITE PEOPLE; the NFL owners own the "plantation" and the workers in the "field" are the BLACK players. It's my blog and my opinion.
One certain, absolutely certain fact is that Tweety does not care about black lives or the message of the kneeling, as he says black NFL players need to under stand they MUST stand for the National Anthem. Here is why Tweety is wrong, IT IS STILL GOING ON, THE BLATANT COP RACISM IN AMERICA!
"Attorney: Bucks' Sterling Brown to sue Milwaukee Police Department"
By ESPN.COM NEWS SERVICES via ESPN May 22, 2018
Cops were called to "check" a black man getting his car from a Walgreens parking lot at 2am! At 2am the black man was double parked. At 2am!
Why did Walgreens need to call the cops? Was the parking lot full at 2am? Is this a case of a black man in the wrong place at 2am?
Cops were called because black men were sitting in a Star Bucks waiting for a friend. Cops were called because a black female grad student was napping in the dorm common area.
"Police officers used a stun gun on Brown and arrested the then-22-year-old guard during questioning over a parking violation in a Walgreens parking lot at about 2 a.m. on Jan. 26."
More.
"Sources who have seen the?body-camera footage told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Brown was not at all combative before officers used the stun gun.
"This could be bad," a source told the Journal Sentinel of the video. "The player doesn't appear to be provocative at all."
Police have shown the footage to some local officials, including a closed session of a Common Council committee."
Arrested and assaulted / tasered for parking badly? He was tasered for beng black outside Walgreens!
I listened to white men on a local Boston radio station, WEEI, argue who was worse, the cops for being bad cops, or the black man, for not defusing the situation by obeying every aggressive cop command. Are you kidding. It's essential cops get exposed for what they are, RACISYS. PUBLIC SHAMING IS ALL BLACKS HAVE FOR COP'S BAD BEHAVIOR.
Sorry WEEI asking the black guy to back down, YOU ARE WRONG! PLUS, not backing down does not excuse the cop for attacking an American citizen they were hired to protect and serve!
White Privilege gets its day when white men argue that it was easy for the black man to defuse a bad cop and do as he says, EVEN WHILE THE CRIME WAS PARKING AND THE THREATS BY COPS WERE REAL.
White men want to believe the black man was responsible for a confrontation because the black man did not back up and defuse a bad situation. The black man was at fault for not quickly stepping back when a cop confronted him, and not quickly showing ID when the cop demanded it, All this despite the fact the cop said he did not what he was going to do, i.e., no crime was alleged at the time.
These WEEI white boys were shouting at each other like the end of the world depended on who had the best argument for one side or the other, tribalism at its best.
Later the cop was suspended for two (2) days, so the boss felt like the cop did wrong.
Of course the black man should have known he was going down when six more cops showed up because he parked sideways at 2am in a Walgreens parking lot. Why did these cops think so much bad was going to happen at 2am? Milwaukee cops are notoriously racist to start, with a reputation that precedes them, so this incident just cemented their place in the hall of fame of cop racism.
No doubt the cops felt a robbery was about to happen, at Walgreens, at 2am when there is likely no money in the store, and the oxy is all locked up in time lock safe in a closed pharmacy. lol!
Now back to the idiot donors for Donald Trump's campaign, who also appear to be idiot owners of NFL teams.
In the public view, by NFL standards, even while the meaning and intent of our national anthem was national unity, it is OK to isolate Blacks on an island as they kneel to bring their White Privileged attention to a matter of their concern. It's in employment, admittedly, but who is really hurt by kneeling?
The black people who kneel feel the national anthem, and our flag are being betrayed by some bad law enforcement, are conveying their message. NFL owners do not care. The owners do not want to say they understand the message of #BlackLivesMatter, and that is gutless.
The kneeling players were saying rogue cops are disrespecting the flag and the anthem! The flag and the anthem stands for something, they stand for justice at least, and rogue cops are not standing for justice.
There is an issue when black boys are confronted while walking in the wrong place, black people die by the hands of police, either by gun or in jail (woman who drove poorly, so put in a jail cell where she died) or by choke holds for selling cigarettes, sleeping while black on dorm common area, using chrcoal in a park while black, and, now, parking while black.
Kneeling was reasonably respectful and hurt no one as a statement of support for Black Lives Matter, and the 15 yard penalty is disrespectful. It is also silly as it will only be on the kickoff!
The NFL will probably embarrass themselves when they take attendance at the anthem to see which players do not come out of the locker room; players will be threatened to come out for the anthem too. It's not good, and Tweety won, just as Mike Pence said.
"N.F.L. Teams Will Be Fined if Players Kneel During National Anthem"
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/23/sports/nfl-anthem-kneeling.html
"Seeking to end a political controversy that has embarrassed professional football, the N.F.L.’s team owners on Wednesday held that players could no longer kneel during the national anthem without leaving themselves open to punishment or their teams facing possible financial penalties.
But the league also said the new policy would not force athletes to stand on the sideline during the anthem; it would give them the option of staying in the locker room during the pregame ceremony. Almost immediately after passage, questions arose about how it would be enforced.
The policy is an attempt to find a middle ground on a divisive issue . . . "
I do not think this is a good middle ground. I think this is a coward's decision, a purely monetary decision. I get it, tho. The owners have a right to make millions on the backs of blacks.
The owners are too greedy, too concerned about pubic reaction to a bad message, Twety's message, not the #BlackLvesMatter message.
OR, maybe the league got it right, found a reasonable compromise, so perhaps I am too quick to judge this new rule.
I will leave up my first impression for now, that owners, who are all white, are not seeing the #BlackLivesMatter message, and are being purposely blind to bad cop racism, but I reserve the right to change my mind as the season plays out.
