It has been true all my life and before. I study history and learn more every day. William Blum. writer, teacher, public speaker chronicled the bad news part of American history.
Anyone with an ounce of sense recognizes the massacre of the American Indians, the unique cruelty of American slavery, American apartheid and racism by police and government institutions in the South in the '60s, and our invasion of Iraq and current occupation of Iraq as really nasty parts of our culture.
William Blum wrote books abou this stuff and gave us a 1,000 more.
With age I see truth & honesty, justice perverted as dialogue defaults to CONSPIRACY & GASLIGHTING.

Trump calls on states to 'LIBERATE' their people from coronavirus restrictions
By Sam Dorman | Fox News

"On Friday, Trump tweeted calls to "LIBERATE" Minnesota, Virginia, and Michigan -- all of which have Democratic governors."
With age I see truth & honesty, and our system of "justice" perverted in a manner so political discourse defaults to CONSPIRACY & GASLIGHTING. Will America's tender, imperfect democracy die this way?
Words that come to mind as I see truth, honesty, and justice fade from every day experience in my elder years:
regret, bad behavior, meanness, state media, Fox News, Russia Today, collateral damage, Wiki Leaks, spies, Russia, China, theft, gaslighting, fake news, alternative facts, propaganda, Jacques Ellul, false equivalency, fake flags, guns, politics, hate, anger, discrimination,, fear, religion, honesty, justice, racism, nationalism, populism, dictators, arrogance, greed, capitalism
As I age, I see truth & honesty is scarce, justice stolen, now CONSPIRACY REIGNS, GASLIGHTING RULES.
I see Candace Owens sell her soul for fame and power, abandoning what is good and right for what I know to be a Black person's claims.
I see in Candace Owens a black women who dislikes herself. When she looks in the mirror she doubts her worth as a black person. Candace words, saying WTF only 65 people have died so why do I need a mask, and her deeds, not wearing a mask in Whole Foods when everyone else is wearing one in that grocery store at that same time, during the pandemic in Wash DC, which was an obvious publicity seeking stunt, reveals how shallow she.
Candace supports exactly the opposite policies in governance of what is needed to allow black people to achieve a fair shake in this country, and to address systemic racism.
I am not Black, but as Candace has said many times, I HAVE A BRAIN.
I also have empathy and believe what Martin Luther King said of American economics: "Socialism for the rich, rugged capitalism for the poor."
I suspect Candace in more a Thomas Sowell kind of person, and Thomas Sowell has little good to say about black people's difficult circumstances.
In fact, I wonder how much Candace knows of how Black people have survived to 2020 in America.
Candace depends on various conspiracies to demonstrate her "brain," what she sells as "intelligence," but I think she is showing ignorance, even worse, she fears the truth and uses conspiracies to pervert and hide the facts.
24 books for white people to read beyond Black History Month
These great reads will help any reader discover the rich range of the African-American experience

I wonder if Candace has read any of these books. Just being black doesn't give you privilege to disrespect the very real racism in America.
I was nurtured in a very Christian family, and my life was all Army. It may have existed, but around my dad I did not see one iota of racism. I knew black, yellow, brown, and red kids in school, a few white kids too. lol!
I fought boys like any red blooded American boys and it did not matter what color they were. I had friends and it did not matter what color they were.
I grew up an Army Brat. I first experienced being blind to color growing up in the military, then learned about racism as I matriculated at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana. A sociology class my last semester at IU was "The Black Experience."
I read a lot of books about the Black Experience and felt a horrible feeling about what slaves had experienced in America's unique form of slavery. I read about police murdering people because they were black in Newark, New Jersey.
I could go on, and recognize since I am not black, Candace has the default argument that I cannot possibly know what she kows or has experienced, so am not justified saying she knows too little and represents the wrong perspectives for black people.
As I said, I wonder if Candace has read any of these books. Just being black doesn't give you privilege to disrespect the very real racism in America.
