I don't want to go too deep into religion, but our founding fathers did not plan of governing from the church pulpit. They left England for, and believed in, religious freedom, the absolute opposite of religious dominion.
Theocracy. You look at the list . . . Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Afghanistan . . . Catholics . . . Utah . . . (a little humor goes a long way I hope); smile ya'll!!

. . . and ask if we want the same for the United States. By the way, which religion gets to govern if you see us as a theocratic country? Why is your choice the right choice?
"A form of government in which God (or a deity) is recognized as the king or immediate ruler, and his laws are taken as the statute-book of the kingdom, these laws being usually administered by a priestly order as his ministers and agents; hence (loosely) a system of government by a sacerdotal order, claiming a divine commission; also, a state so governed."
What one thinks is the right choice is not always the best choice.
